I went to the dermatologist today for two suspicious spots. He biopsied both of them and I will get my pathology results on 6/27. One spot is on my hip and looks/acts just like basal cell carcinoma - and if something walks and talks like a duck, it's usually a duck. Three years ago I had minor surgery on my right cheek to remove a fairly large basal cell carcinoma. It left a 3 inch long scar across my cheek and was really the icing on the cake for turning 30 years old. It's like cancer laughed at me and said, "Oh, you think you're old now turning 30?? Let me leave you facially disfigured and see how you feel!" The other spot I had removed today was on my left cheek and looks exactly how the spot on the right cheek did when it first developed. My dermatologist in Dallas was a little nutty with the liquid nitrogen and LOVED to freeze things off like it was the cure-all for anything. Well, after three (count 'em, three) freezing episodes and some considerable scarring, the basal cell came back again. About that time we moved to Houston, I had Lindsay and I didn't go near any doctor but an OB/GYN or pediatrician for 3 years. Finally, I decided I better do something. I saw my derm here, he took a biopsy, scheduled surgery and the rest is history.
Hopefully the spots are nothing, but knowing my skin and my history the best thing to hope for is that he removed it all during the biopsy.
