They don't make 'em like they used to...

The first washer and dryer set I ever bought was purchased at Sears in 1993 when I was in college. I bought the next to the bottom of the line set. That washer and dryer lasted for over 10 years. The only reason Jeff and I replaced it was because we had 2 children and the washer was too small to do very much laundry at one time. So about 3-4 years ago we bought a new set - top of the line GE with every bell and whistle. A couple of weeks ago, the washing machine started spraying oil all over our clothes. The GE repairman said that the transmission is broken and would be cost-prohibitively expensive to fix.
So, Saturday afternoon Jeff and I went to Best Buy and bought a new washer and dryer. It's made by LG and is the new front-loading style on pedastel drawers. And this time we bought the extended warranty!!!
After reading the instruction manuals, I think I have figured out how they work. During the first load, Jeff and I watched through the glass door, completely in awe. We are really praying that this set will last longer than the last set.
