Game Ball

Sadly, the Devil Rays' 2007 season came to an end tonight with a 21-20 loss to the Red Sox. At the end of 4 innings, we were ahead 20-19. But because there were 4 minutes left in the game, rules dictate that another inning must be started. In the top of the 5th inning, the Red Sox recorded 3 outs before we scored any runs. Then in the bottom of the 5th, the Red Sox scored 2 runs to go ahead and take the game. The boys were disappointed, but should be SO proud of their progress this season. This team really came together and learned a lot. They will go on to machine pitch next year with solid fundamentals and lots of experience.

On a positive note, Brandon received the game ball tonight for his awesome batting and for making an out at home plate during that crucial 4th inning where we held them to only 4 runs. (Background note: in Little League t-ball, the half-inning is over after 3 outs or 5 runs, whichever comes first). Had we played a little slower and eaten up the entire 1 hour 10 minute time allotment for the game (and not left 4 minutes), the Devil Rays would have won and gone on to battle the Orioles for the American title.

That brings Brandon's gameball total to 3 for the season (against the A's, Red Sox and tonight against the Red Sox).

After the game, Brandon and a couple of his teammates ran the bases on the t-ball field one last time. Next year they will move up to machine pitch and will never play on Field 6 again. It was a bittersweet moment.
CHEERS to a great season! Yay, Devil Rays!
